Custom domains for Singapore Shopify stores
A store on yourshop.myshopify.com works, but a domain of your own looks more trustworthy, is easier to remember and is what you'll print on packaging. This guide covers choosing between .sg, .com.sg and .com, the Singapore registration rules, connecting the domain to Shopify, and SSL.
.sg, .com.sg or .com?
Singapore domains are run by SGNIC. Its category rules (also summarised by registrars such as Namecheap) say:
- .sg: anyone may apply. A foreign applicant must appoint a local agent as administrative contact.
- .com.sg: for commercial entities registered, or registering, with ACRA, Enterprise Singapore or a Singapore professional body. Foreign companies need a local agent.
A .sg or .com.sg tells shoppers you're local. A .com suits brands planning to sell overseas. Many businesses register both and redirect one to the other. Register your business first if you want .com.sg; see our ACRA registration guide.
SGNIC verification
For a new .sg domain, the administrative contact must be an individual with a valid NRIC or FIN, or an organisation with a valid UEN. According to SGNIC's VerifiedID@SG FAQ, that contact must complete verification through Singpass within 21 calendar days of registration. Don't miss the email, or the domain can be suspended.
Buy through Shopify or connect your own
You can buy a domain in Settings > Domains, and Shopify sets up DNS for you, or register it with a Singapore registrar and connect it. A .com.sg usually needs a registrar that handles SGNIC checks.
Connecting a third-party domain
Shopify's manual connection guide and troubleshooting page list the records:
- A record (@) to
23.227.38.65 - AAAA record (@) to
2620:0127:f00f:5:: - CNAME (www) to
shops.myshopify.com.(include the trailing dot if your provider needs it)
Delete any other A or AAAA records, then in Shopify go to Settings > Domains > Connect existing domain. It can take up to 48 hours to go live. If you use email on the same domain, leave the MX records alone.
SSL and the primary domain
Shopify provides TLS (SSL) certificates free for every domain added to the store (Shopify). If it shows SSL pending after 48 hours, check the records, turn off DNSSEC, and if you use CAA records allow letsencrypt.org, pki.goog and ssl.com.
Set your custom domain as primary under Settings > Domains. Shopify's primary domain page says other domains, including .myshopify.com, then redirect to it. Keep a note of your original .myshopify.com address, which you still use to log in and identify your store to Support. Then update links in your bio, emails and Google Business Profile. After you switch
- Check pages and checkout load on the new domain with the padlock showing.
- Add the domain to Google Search Console and submit

Frequently asked questions
Who can register a .com.sg domain?

No. Shopify issues TLS certificates for free for domains added to Shopify. After connecting a third-party domain it can take up to 48 hours.
